Building Connections On The Court | Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser

A New Kind of Summer Kickoff

This June marked a milestone for Mind and Momentum; our very first Pickleball Tournament. For us, it wasn’t about measuring success in dollars raised or trophies awarded. Instead, the goal was simple, create a welcoming event that encouraged students and youth to come together, try something new, and strengthen community bonds.

Pickleball turned out to be the perfect choice. The sport has exploded in popularity over the past few years, largely because of how easy it is for beginners to pick up while still offering plenty of excitement for more experienced players. On the day of the tournament, we saw that play out in real time as over 40 people, youth from around the Greater Katy Area, filled the courts. Within minutes, laughter and cheers echoed across the space as games kicked off and friendships began forming.

Why This Tournament Mattered

Although we didn’t walk away with a large financial outcome, the Pickleball Tournament was a success in every other sense of the word. It showed us that small-scale, community-centered events can have just as much impact as major fundraisers. It gave local teens an opportunity to engage with peers they may never have met otherwise. And it reminded everyone present that sport can be a vehicle for friendship, belonging, and confidence. That sense of inclusion is exactly what Mind and Momentum strives to create.
